Adobe® Acrobat® 7.0 Professional and Standard
This document contains installation instructions for both Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional and Standard software. Instructions that apply to both products don't specify a product. For late-breaking information about problems related to installation, see the Adobe Acrobat ReadMe file.
Acrobat 7.0 Professional for Windows® requires the following:
· Intel® Pentium® class processor
· Microsoft® Windows® 2000 with Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows XP Professional or Home Edition with SP1 or SP2, or Tablet PC Edition
· 128 MB of installed RAM (256 MB recommended)
· 460 MB of available hard disk space; optional installation files cache (recommended) requires an additional 300 MB of available hard disk space ( Note: The installer creates temporary files during installation so the actual hard disk space required at that time is greater than the values listed.)
· 1024 x 768 screen resolution
· CD-ROM drive, if installing from a CD
· Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0, or 6.0 with SP1 (Netscape 7.1 and AOL 9.0 are supported, but not required)
· Internet or phone connection required for product activation
Acrobat 7.0 Standard for Windows requires the following:
· Intel® Pentium® class processor
· Microsoft® Windows® 2000 with Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows XP Professional or Home Edition with SP1 or SP2, or Tablet PC Edition
· 128 MB of installed RAM (256 MB recommended)
· 360 MB of available hard disk space; optional installation files cache (recommended) requires an additional 300 MB of available hard disk space ( Note: The installer creates temporary files during installation so the actual hard disk space required at that time is greater than the values listed.)
· CD-ROM drive, if installing from a CD
· Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0, or 6.0 with SP1 (Netscape 7.1 and AOL 9.0 are supported, but not required)
· Internet or phone connection required for product activation
Use the following instructions to install new software or to upgrade from a previous version. If you are installing an upgrade, you may be required to provide proof of ownership. If you purchased Acrobat as a download, Adobe recommends that you backup your download package, preferably to a CD.
1 -- Restart Windows and turn off any antivirus software.
· If you purchased Acrobat on a CD, insert the CD and click Install Acrobat 7.0 in the Autoplay splash screen.
· If you purchased Adobe Acrobat as a download, double-click the setup.exe file.
3 -- In the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup dialog box, click Next. Follow the on-screen instructions to read the introduction, select a language, and accept the license agreement.
4 -- Enter your name, your organization (optional), and the serial number for your copy of the program. The serial number is located on the outside of the CD case, or on the receipt page for web purchases. You can also locate the serial number for web purchases in your online order history.
5 -- Select the type of installation that you want:
· Typical installs the program files for Acrobat, Acrobat Distiller, Adobe Designer, PDFMaker, the Adobe PostScript printer driver for your system, standard plug-ins, accessories, and the online documentation.
· Complete installs all Acrobat features and requires the most disk space.
Note: For a description of a component, select Custom, and click Next. Then select a component to see its description. Click Back to return to selecting a type of installation if you do not want to continue with a custom installation.
6 -- Click Next, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. When installation is finished, you may be prompted to activate your version of Acrobat.
You may need to activate your copy of Acrobat within 30 days after you install the software. You can activate Acrobat by using your internet connection or by calling customer service. For more information about activation, visit the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/activation/main.html.
1 -- Start Adobe Acrobat. (If you've just installed the software, the Activation screen appears automatically.)
2 -- When the Activation screen appears, do one of the following:
· If Acrobat detects an internet connection, a message will appear on the screen, asking if you would like to activate over the internet. Click Next to start the internet activation process immediately. Skip step 3.
· If you want to activate by phone, or if you want to activate at a later time, click Other Activation Options.
3 -- If you clicked Other Activation Options, select one of the following options:
· Select Over The Internet and then click Next to start the activation process immediately. A status screen lets you know how it's progressing. If you're having trouble, try activating by telephone.
· Select By Telephone Via The Automated Software Activation System to begin phone activation. Click Next to bring up a screen with the Adobe Customer Service phone number, information about your copy of Adobe Acrobat, and instructions for entering your authorization code. Once you call Adobe with this information you'll receive an authorization code. Enter the authorization code just as you hear it. Click Next to complete the activation.
· Select Remind Me if you want to delay the activation process by a few days. Choose a reminder option from the pop-up list, and then click Next. You still need to activate within 30 days if you choose this option.

Note: Uninstalling Acrobat 7.0 removes Distiller and the Adobe PDF printer. Uninstalling Acrobat 7.0 also removes Registry settings that are used by earlier Acrobat releases which affects the viewing of PDF files in the browser.
1 -- From the Start menu, choose Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (Windows 2000) or Add Or Remove Programs (Windows XP).
To run Acrobat, you must have installed the files from the CD onto your local hard drive.
Click the Start Menu, choose Programs > Adobe Acrobat 7.0. You can also double-click the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 icon on your desktop, or double-click an Adobe PDF file icon to open the file in Acrobat.
